Famous Injured Athletes That Come Back Stronger
Professional Athletes are
hugely passionate about their sport, performance, team and success are often
superseded by their bodies ability to keep up with them. Training intensely every
day and taking on tough opposition in rigorous games has taken its toll on many
Athletes muscles, but they’re recovering and returning to the field stronger;
here are two of our favourites.
One of the ultimate professional Athletes
labelled as one of the best NBA players and awarded the NBA Most Valuable Player
in 2014-15 is Stephen Curry. Curry has carved
his name into Sports history and is still an on-going marvel. However, his passion and resilience in training and games has left him
suffering with numerous ankle and MCL sprains and muscle contusions. Curry is
referenced as using PRP (Platelet-rich Plasma)
treatment in order to recover and repair his ligament and
tendon damages. This is a popular method of
treatment for professional athletes in need of a
quick result, but it’s expensive and not reviewed as 100% effective.
In an unfortunate game on 5th
December 2017, Curry fell on his ankle in the closing seconds of the Golden State Warriors win in New Orleans. An MRI scan fortunately revealed no structural damage but
he did suffer from severe swelling around his ankle. Curry escaped more
potential surgery but, like many other athletes, could reduce the swelling and
aid the treatment of his potential sprain using electrotherapy.
This is a renowned method of treatment, it’s cost effective and proven to pain relief for athletes, like himself, to hit the
court again and smash another three-pointer NBA record.
Another all-star Athlete with a net worth of
$12 million is Ryan Shazier, a top American
Football Linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Shaziers injury occurred during a Football game vs. Cincinnati Bengals in
December 2017, where he sustained a severe spinal injury
after a tackle. 2 days later Shazier underwent spinal stabilisation surgery to
realign the dislocated bones of his spine and begin neurological recovery. This
serious spinal injury meant that Shazier’s 2017 season ended and as of now he’s
still recovering. In order to aid his rehabilitation however, he is currently
working with physical therapists and athletic trainers to slowly strengthen himself
through muscle therapy in order to reachieve his
mobility.
Based on research into post-care of this surgery, to assist the reduction of the inflammation and relieve pain gentle electrotherapy would help treat the delicate surrounding muscle tissue effected. Stiff muscles from long periods of immobile recovery time can also be aided by the use of electrotherapy in the form of medium frequency IFC such as UGYM Sport Massager, by relaxing and unstiffening unused muscles. This muscle stimulator can help the comfort and treatment of athletes and promote their recovery back to professional sportsman so that athletes like Shazier can achieve their dream ‘to come back and play football again.’
Both Curry and
Shazier are hardworking Athletes that are so highly prone to muscle damage it
becomes part of their job to maintain themselves and have a healthy lifestyle pre and post injury. Massaging
their muscles and physical therapy helps
maintain both of these sport icons strength in order to repair and recover
quicker in the future. Hopefully their determination to return to the game and
stay fit despite the risks will inspire you too.
